The 2017 Fuel Economy Guide

The 2017 Fuel Economy Guide

Thanks to the internet, it’s a lot easier to do research on your purchases before handing over your card or applying for a loan. And thanks to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it’s even easier to find fuel economy data for new and used cars, SUVs and passenger trucks.

Fuel Economy Guide

The DOE and EPA recently released their 2017 Fuel Economy Guide, which breaks down all the fuel economy data for just about any car you could want. Their online tools allow you find and compare vehicles side-by-side, calculate or share your MPG, and calculate fuel costs for different vehicles. They have information on vehicles dating back to 1984 all the way up to 2017, so you can figure out just how much you’ll spend and save on any new purchases you’re considering.

It’s a great site to bookmark if you want your next vehicle to help reduce your carbon footprint, or if you just want to save a few bucks at the pump.

The Best Times to Buy

To complete your preparation, check out this recent TrueCar study, which analyzed more than 12 million transactions over five years and found the best times to buy a car. They even broke it down into segments (i.e. The best time to buy a midsize SUV vs. the best time to buy a compact car) and days of the week.
