Beginning March 1, 2013 the US Department of the Treasury will pay all federal benefits electronically. If you are applying for benefits on or after May 1, 2011, you will receive benefit payments electronically from the start. If you are already receiving benefits by paper checks, you need to make the switch by March 1, 2013.
