How far overdrawn can my account go?
Up to a $1,000 limit based on the type of Clearview Checking account you have. (including Courtesy Pay fees of $25.00 per item).
How do I apply?
Accounts in good standing are automatically enrolled once the account has been open for 90 days.
How will I know if I have Courtesy Pay on my checking account?
Accounts in good standing, are automatically enrolled. Good standing is defined as:
- $10 or more deposited into your Clearview Savings account
- Clearview Checking account has been open for 90 days or more
- Automatic direct deposit is set up on your Clearview Checking account
- 18 years of age or older
- Account brought to a positive end-of-day balance; all fees paid at least once every 30 days
- Any share account has not been overdrawn within the past 30 days
- No outstanding legal orders, garnishments, execution or levies, including bankruptcy notices on your account.
- Your account does not have any loans more than 30 days delinquent.
How much does Courtesy Pay cost?
It is free until you use it. Then, a $25.00 Courtesy Pay fee is assessed for each transaction and/or overdraft exceeding the applicable limit (including fees) being assessed a $25.00 insufficient fund fee for each item returned. If you use Courtesy Pay for two overdrawn items, your account will be charged two separate fees ($25.00 for each overdrawn item).
What transactions will access the Courtesy Pay service?
If you overdraw your account, Courtesy Pay will cover share drafts or Preauthorized Drafts written to third parties, ACH debits, PCU BillPayer and deposits that have not cleared, such that funds are unavailable.
Will my Courtesy Pay limit be reflected in my available balance?
No. The Courtesy Pay amount is not added to your account balance. If your account balance is $1,000.00, your funds available will appear as $1,000.00.
Is Courtesy Pay a loan?
No. It is a non-contractual courtesy to members who maintain their checking accounts in good standing. This service is discretionary on the part of the Credit Union.
Can I use Courtesy Pay to make a Clearview loan payment?
No. You cannot use Courtesy Pay to make any loan payments or to bring another account to a positive balance.
When do I have to repay the overdraft?
You will need to bring your account to a positive end-of-day balance within 30 days of the overdraft occurrence.
What if I do not want Courtesy Pay?
You can opt out of the service. Please note that the opt out takes 24 hours. Overdrawn items will be returned unpaid and a $25.00 NSF fee will be assessed after funds for overdraft protection (if applicable) have been depleted. You may also be charged additional fees by the merchant/payee.
If I opt out of Courtesy Pay and change my mind later, whom do I see?

Do I have Courtesy Pay on all of my checking accounts?
Only one checking account per member will be eligible for the program.
Can Courtesy Pay be taken away?
Yes. The service can be taken away if your account is no longer in good standing. We are not obligated to honor future items.
Does Clearview offer traditional Overdraft Protection?
Yes. You can choose to have Overdraft Protection from the following accounts:- Savings account
- Member’s Choice account
- Money Market account
- PowerLine Line of Credit
- EquityPlus Home Equity Line of Credit
Please note that the transfer feature from a deposit account and/or an advance from a line of credit will process before Courtesy Pay.
What is the difference between Overdraft Protection and Courtesy Pay?
Overdraft Protection transfers funds from a previously designated account to pay the item. Overdraft Protection will NOT allow the account to go into a negative balance. There is no fee for Overdraft Protection. Courtesy Pay is a non-contractual courtesy, offered by the Credit Union, to eligible members. This service pays items which would otherwise be returned as NSF. There is a $25.00 fee for each item paid through Courtesy Pay.
Are you encouraging me to write bad checks?
No. We are responding to member requests to pay items that were being returned when the available amount is only a few dollars less than the amount of the check. We are providing our members with a valuable service.
I thought I had Courtesy Pay. Why did you return my check as NSF?
Items are returned NSF when the payment is more than your available Courtesy Pay amount.
Can I overdraw my account using an ATM card or point-of-sale transaction?
No, ATM, point-of-sale or debit card transactions are not covered.
