There are many advertisements that suggest you call or visit a Web site to
obtain a free
credit report. However, many end up not being free at all, and quickly turn into
costing
you money. Be aware that the official site for consumers to receive one free
credit report
every 12 months, from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies
-
Equifax, Experian and Trans Union - is
www.annualcreditreport.com.
With identity theft rapidly rising, regular monitoring and review of your credit
reports will
help determine if the information contained is accurate and up to date. If your
credit is
in good shape, stagger requests for your free reports throughout the year,
receiving one
every four months in order to check for such theft. Also, pull reports on your
children
and grandchildren. You may be surprised to know that even newborns are having
their
identities stolen.
If you are interested in a free seminar on credit reports or related topics for
your
coworkers, staff, club or school, Mary Ann Demczak, our Financial
Education/Community
Outreach Advocate, is available at (412) 299-6083. Call her for more information
on
attending your event. |
