Stop Unwanted Solicitation
PLEASE…JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!
Would you like to actually sleep in on your day off? How about not seeing all that junk in your mailbox? Annoyed with receiving 15 pre-approved credit card offers each week? Most people don’t know it, but you CAN do something about these situations.

  • Call Opt Out at 1-888-567-8688 to remove your name from lists generated by major credit reporting bureaus for credit offers, reducing pre-approved inquiries on your credit report. The process is simple and only takes about 2 minutes. You can opt to have your name removed for 2 years or permanently. You may still receive mailings from companies that do not use a credit reporting agency to compile their lists. A good reason to do this is to help prevent and protect yourself from identity theft and fraud. Crooks can obtain credit in your name after visiting your mailbox and completing these applications.

  • Send a postcard to register to be deleted from most advertisement mailing lists. Include your name and address, along with your signature and stop most unwanted mailings for 5 years. Most people notice a marked decrease within 3 months. (I did!) Send postcard to:

    Mail Preference Svc.,Direct Marketing Assoc.
    P O Box 9008
    Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008

  • Log on to www.donotcall.gov to access the National DO NOT CALL Registry, which is managed by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). Read about your right to prohibit telemarketers from interrupting your dinner. A few simple steps and you can add up to 3 phone numbers (including cellular) to the register, which will prohibit most telemarketers from calling you to hawk their latest and greatest for a 5 year period. Calls from and on the behalf of political organizations, charities, surveyors and companies with which you have an existing relationship are permitted.

During the first 3 months after registering, you may still receive some calls. Use these specific words to have them stop--“place me on your DO NOT CALL LIST”. If you still continue to receive calls after 3 months, you may file a complaint with the FTC on this same website. Be sure you jot down who is calling, from what company and what date they called.

You may also want to register on your state DO NOT CALL list. Some states have shared their their data with the national registry, some have not. (PA residents call 1-888-777-3406)
